It is not surprising that many people living in communities impacted by generations of disinvestment and systemic racism find it hard to trust the very systems that exist to serve them. Those same people are often described as “hard to reach,” suggesting that they are the ones creating difficulty, rather than our systems’ failure to meet them where they are. This panel discussion explores how outreach and “relentless” engagement can build bridges and overcome barriers to service. By nurturing authentic, trusting, and sustained relationships, we can create more equitable access for Chicago’s children and families who are experiencing significant hardship.
